Two years ago, in May 2018, Professors Dimitris Kouretas and Konstantinos Poulas initiated in Athens the Scientific Summit on Tobacco Harm Reduction: Novel products, Research & Policy with the ambition to create an international summit aiming to cover most aspects of Tobacco Harm Reduction research, policies, and products, an emerging field that in the past year faced several challenges following the increasing frequency of use of alternative tobacco products.
In 2019, in order to organise the 2nd Scientific Summit, the Organising Committee was expanded to include Professor Anastasia Barbouni and Professor Ignatios Ikonomidis, medical doctors, involved in smoking control.
This year, facing the 3rd Scientific Summit in September 2020, additional scientific bodies join and support the Summit organisers.
